Founded in 2020 by Danny Purcell and Julyan Collett, Basis is building the world's first digitally configurable smart electrical panel. Basis’ smart panel makes old-school switchboards a thing of the past, helping homeowners save over $1,000 annually while improving home safety.

Basis was born from frustration at a backyard BBQ–frustrated that Kiwi homes were adopting EVs and solar while still relying on century-old switchboards.

As their first investor, we backed Danny and Julyan at seed stage in 2020. Since then, Basis has raised a total of $59 million from leading investors, including their latest Series A raise in July 2024.

Securing over 7,500 contracted orders worth $25 million before commercial launch, Basis plans to install 50,000 digital smart panels globally. Their smart panel processes 2.3 million data points per second and became the first product worldwide to achieve IEC 61009 certification for digitally configurable safety.

Basis is expanding to Australia in late 2025, followed by the UK, Europe, and Asia in 2026, with over $100 million in B2B sales pipeline opportunities.
