Founded in 2016 by Craig Piggott and Max Olson, Halter bridges deep tech into real-world farming by enabling farmers to remotely shift, virtually fence and proactively monitor their cows’ health and behaviour.
We first backed Craig at 22 years old in 2016 through Seed Fund I, alongside Sir Peter Beck and Sir Stephen Tindall, when he left Rocket Lab to found Halter. Growing up on a 300-cow dairy farm in Waikato, Craig saw firsthand the problems his parents faced working 100-hour weeks.
Halter achieved unicorn status in 2025 with a $1.65 billion valuation after raising $165 million in Series D funding. The company now serves over 500,000 cattle across 1,000+ farms in New Zealand, Australia, and the US, with 200+ employees and offices in Auckland and Boulder, Colorado.
