Founded in 2018 by Max Olson and led by CEO Eric Laakmann, Vessev builds electric hydrofoiling vessels and technology that reduces energy consumption by up to 90%. Through flying above the water, these vessels deliver a smoother, quieter, and more sustainable experience than traditional boats.
As an early investor, we backed Max through our Seed Fund II, recognising his vision–fresh from co-founding Halter–to apply America's Cup hydrofoiling technology to commercial maritime transport by founding Vessev.
The company launched its VS-9 in 2024, the world's first certified electric hydrofoiling vessel for commercial tourism, now operating with Fullers360 in Auckland.
The VS-9 carries 10 passengers at 25 knots with a 50-nautical-mile range, and Vessev is already expanding to Europe with its first customer, Finn Lough resort in Northern Ireland, while developing the VS-18—a 100-passenger commuter ferry for larger-scale sustainable transport.
